Fister’s fitness opens
Jenny Fister has opened Jenny’s Callanetics at 506 E. Seltice Way in Post Falls.
The Worley resident instructs clients in a fitness program she called unique. It features small, precise movements to tone inner muscles and stabilize the neck and spine.
“We work from the inside out,” she said. “Because of that, it gets very fast results.”
Callanetics is most helpful to people with multiple sclerosis, scoliosis or recovering from back and knee injuries.
It is for people of all ages and fitness levels.
Fister, who has scoliosis, is a certified Callanetics instructor with experience as a massage technician and has studied nutrition.
“When I discovered Callanetics eight years ago, I realized how much the exercises were similar to the physical therapy I had been through as a young girl,” she said.
Fister offers classes and individual sessions.
One-hour classes are Tuesday through Thursday, 4 and 6:30 p.m.

Kootenai County expecting company
It’s the time of year when the promise of summer signals the arrival of visitors to our community. As a primarily leisure-travel state, most visitors to Idaho are here to visit friends and family, along with experiencing the outdoors, touring and attending a special event.
According to the Idaho Department of Commerce, Idaho’s $3.4 billion tourism industry employs over 26,000 Idahoans and generated $499.7 million in local, state, and federal tax revenues in a recent past year.
A two percent lodging tax, paid by travelers and collected by the state’s hotel, motel and private campground owners has grown to over $7 million annually. Forty-five percent of the funds are used for statewide programs targeted to international and domestic consumers, tour operators, travel agents, travel journalists, and film industry marketing.
Another 45 percent is distributed to non-profit local and regional tourism development organizations through the Idaho Regional Travel and Convention Grant Program. Oversight is provided by the Idaho Travel Council, an eight-member, private sector advisory board appointed by the governor.
The Post Falls Chamber of Commerce is one of 32 grantees for grants totaling $2,806,812 for the 2010-2011 grant year. Our grant dollars are leveraged with local partners to promote visitors to our community through brochures, a visitor website (www.visitpostfalls.com), as well as print and electronic advertising in neighboring states and Canada.
Post Falls is proud to host a variety of events which draw visitors, the Julyamsh Pow Wow, regional stock car racing, car shows & rallys and big name concerts to name a few.
Let’s all put out the welcome mat for the company who’s coming and who will leave behind a substantial and positive economic impact in our community.
Pam Houser is the president/CEO of the Post Falls Chamber of Commerce.
Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders
The Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce has a deep commitment to education and over the years has strongly supported students and educational institutions to train our community’s youth.
In the early years of the last century the chamber joined forces to help create today’s North Idaho College. Recently the Chamber endorsed and worked to make the Kootenai Technical Education Campus (KTEC) a reality.
The campus will be an important part of our area youths’ education and preparing them in technical and trade industries.
We all know that education is an expense, but an important investment. To support the areas’ students and to help ensure continued success, the Coeur d’Alene Chamber will recognize our area’s top scholars from public and private schools of District 271.
This will take place at the May 10 Upbeat Breakfast held from 7-8:30 p.m. at The Coeur d’Alene Resort.
Dennis Wheeler, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Coeur d’Alene Mining will speak at the breakfast sharing his wealth of experience and knowledge to high school seniors as they prepare to graduate, further their educations and develop their personal and professional careers.
During the Upbeat Breakfast the Coeur d’Alene Chamber’s Education Committee will announce and present the three $500 Chamber Scholarships.
The Chamber received more than 20 applicants and a challenge review was completed to select the three recipients.
Both the Upbeat Scholars Breakfast and the Chamber Scholarship are supported through area businesses as they sponsor students. Area businesses can still help by sponsoring a student. The cost to sponsor a student is $50 and businesses can sponsor multiple students if they wish to do so.
Businesses interested in sponsoring students can contact Ginger Dalvini at (208)415-0108 or via email at Ginger@CdAChamber.com.
The opportunity to recognize, honor and connect students with area business leaders is an opportunity to strengthen our future. Today’s students are leaders of businesses, homes, and communities tomorrow. We all look forward to May’s Scholars Upbeat Breakfast and meeting our area’s top students.
